First of all, I’d like to say that I love your podcast! Easily the best thing to listen to while working :)

I’d just like to comment on something that was said during this newest podcast. You mentioned the dreaded convention of “I am the bastard son of X”, and discredited it with good reason. However, I don’t think it’s altogether a terrible idea. Of course, your character isn’t the lovechild of Thrall and Jaina; but you can take the concept mentioned last podcast (pick out a random from the history of WoW and think, “what’s their story?”) by perhaps being related to an existing NPC.

For example, the rogue I made on Earthen Ring is the sister of Keryn Sylvius. Haven’t heard of her? If you’ve played a human rogue you would have seen her: she’s the rogue trainer in Goldshire inn.

Having a small connection to actual game world like this can be an interesting catalyst for roleplaying and motivation.

I also hate the “I am a vampire” Or a dragon in disguise. As a roleplay hook they are okay, but they are much used now, and with all things used they are starting to show their wear. For most people untrained in the attitude of roleplay they sometimes fall on the crutch of cliche.
When I see someone with a cliche for their roleplay hook, I wait and see how well they use it in their play. Well played cliches are okay.
    As for me?

I am Greatfather Winter! in his mortal disguise. Have I got big shoes to fill when I roleplay.

I’ve downloaded, and really enjoyed, all of the episodes to date. It is refreshing to hear RP from a different server. Personally, I would love to hear more about Earthen Ring specific Lore.

    Keep up the excellent work!

  4. Ogerin Ogerin says:

Actually, guys, it’s possible that the guy who you said had the bubble gum reference might have just been a soldier in the Holing Fjord. Here is an except from the first quest you get in the Alliance-side Howling Fjord:
    -
“Report to Vice Admiral Keller just northwest of here and let him know that you’re all out of bubble gum.”

  5. Stardancer Stardancer says:

Thanks Modesty for the comment. I believe Jaero said a similar thing in his segment. He said something along the lines of, “it can be done, but *how* its done is the issue.” :-)
